May. 25th, 2015 09:10 pmHistory:
Little is known about Link before he joined the Hylian army, but really, not much is there to say. From the moment he joined, it was evident that Link was adept in fighting and he quickly rose in respect within the trainee ranks. Quickly, most soldiers knew his name, and he was renown for his silence.
Soon after, a dark army invaded Hyrule. Not wanting to sit there with the other trainees, Link took a sword and went straight into battle, aiding the Princess’ caretaker, Impa, and Queen Zelda herself in battle. There, he went head to head against Volga, the dragon master, and proved himself to be the reincarnated spirit of the chosen hero when he used his Triforce power to defend himself and Impa from the dark army’s general. Volga fled and a beast known as King Dodongo was summoned, seeming like an invincible beast. However, Link, being resourceful, used the bombs he found and made King Dodongo swallow them, exposing a weak point and allowing the Hylian army to seize victory.
After the battle, Queen Zelda went missing, so Impa had Link change into the garment of the Hero of Hyrule. Link didn’t feel like he deserved this honour, but he took arms and travelled with Impa and the Hylian army for weeks. When hearing news of a mysterious woman leading a small army, Impa and Link went to the Eldin caves, where they fought the other general in the dark army, Wizzro. Thanks to Link’s leadership and strength, and the help of a new ally called Sheik, the army went through the caves and travelled to Faron Woods.
In Faron Woods, it was found that the woman leading the army was not Zelda, but a sorceress named Lana. However, she had valuable information about the leader of the dark army- a dark sorceress known as Cia, who wanted all of Hyrule. Wizzro returned and set the Deku Tree on fire and summoned a creature known as Queen Gohma. The one-eyed beast seemed unable to be hit, but Link used his sharp bowman skills to puncture the creature’s eye, and took it down alone.
After the battle, Lana lead them to the Gate of Souls, to confront Cia. Cia summoned a metallic plant known as the Mandhalla, but Link used a lone boomerang to defeat it and break the enchantment surrounding Cia’s portal. However, even despite winning the battle, Cia used her magic to take the Triforce from Link and Sheik, and turn Hyrule into a mesh of worlds, dragging three eras through space and time to the land in order to unlock the great evil that rested in each place.
Lana used her magic to protect them, but the group knew they had to close the portals before CIa could be defeated, so they split up. Link went to the town in the sky, to a village known as Skyloft. There, Volga was fighting again, and Link had to enlist the help of a sword spirit known as Fi to defeat him. However, Ghirahim was aiding Volga, and after losing the battle, he used his magic to make some soldiers betray Link.
However, Link wasn’t deterred. He headed to the Sealed Grounds and the hall of time. Not only did he defeat the traitorous soldiers and Ghirahim, but also a giant, dark god known as the Imprisoned. By cleverly using the catapults in each fort, he brought the Imprisoned down and defeated him for good.
After sealing the portal that was giving Cia her minions and setting things right, Link returned to the others with Fi by his side. There, he is reunited with Sheik, who was revealed to be really Zelda in disguise. Zelda said that they needed their Triforce pieces back, so they headed for the Temple of the Sacred Sword, hoping to obtain the Master Sword in order to stand against Cia and her Triforce.
Personality:
The Triforce is the harmonious union of power, wisdom, and courage. Each time the Triforce fell into the clutches of evil, Hyrule would fall into despair. But in every age, a hero clad in green would restore peace to the land. Link is the reborn spirit of that hero who split the spirit into four separate fragments, sealing each away to finally break the cycle of destruction. However, Link doesn’t see himself as the hero of Hyrule or thinks he’s worthy of the honour, but he agrees to become part of the Hylian army permanently in order to help Impa and her remaining soldiers to locate Zelda. Since he needs to feel he needs to live up to this expectation, he often is a little insecure despite his smiles.
Seeing as he’s pretty much been born and raised as a solider, Link is extremely talented at fighting- his skills as a trainee impressed the princess of Hyrule when she came to watch. He rather enjoys it actually, unless the battle is serious or it is senseless violence. Link has a rather keen eye, able to see physical weaknesses quickly and able to exploit them. He has a knack of pulling out what he needs and using it to his advantage. Since he has a lot of weapons, he’s very good at that.
Link won’t have the Master Sword, so the darkness in his heart from the overconfidence and power he feels will not be able to manifest into Dark Link. However, over inflating his ego will lead him to make rash decisions and think he can do things alone. That’s best avoided. Taking him before obtaining the Master Sword also makes Link have the need to prove himself as Hyrule’s hero- which is a struggle when you’re a gem in another dimension.
Above all, Link is courageous and selfless, even without the Triforce of Courage. He always goes out of his way to help someone in need, even if it may seem like a trap, because he really wants to help people. He never ignores the plea of a villager, or a side quest from some ugly creature, even if it takes him from his goal. Link is one of the most loyal, humble people you will ever meet, even though he’s not much of a talker.
Unfortunately, outside of battle… Link is rather… challenged, to say the least. He tends to be resourceful and thinks of unique ways to solve situations, but he really struggles to apply that outside of battle. Even though he can lead an army and is very friendly with the troops, conversation isn’t his strong point, for one thing. Link doesn’t talk much… or at all actually. He usually requires the aid of a fairy to talk for him. However, he will have to deal with being mute for his stay at Waverly Bay. He’s very expressive with his face and his body language, which hopefully will suffice. He can also grunt and yell loudly… which may scare someone.
Link is also ridiculously easy to fluster, since he’s not used to getting embarrassed. Again though, he’s really friendly and gets over it rather fast. However, being an orphan, his social skills are appalling, and has few graces. Although he can be respectful to figures of authority, he is rather awkward and will look very alarmed if he’s unfamiliar with a situation. He’ll plead with his eyes to send help.
He’s a bit of a nerd and the literal definition of ‘adorkable’. He’ll be shocked about everything about Waverly Bay that’s different from Hyrule… which is literally everything. Technology will be a scare. People will be a scare… particularly monstrous looking people. They’re just asking to get stabbed. If someone disagrees with him but looks capable of battle and it doesn’t seem rude or not beneficial to fight them… he’s going to bludgeon them into friendship
He has a strong tendency to loot places- not that he wants to steal things, but he’s just used to smashing pots and taking the free money. If he sees grass, he’s also going to cut it with his sword in search of money. Money gets important potions… as well as the remains of the enemies to make useful badges and potions. He’s a looter alright.
His sleeping habits are also really weird, so get used to either seeing him awake 24/7 or sleeping 24 hours. Being in the army throws his sleep schedule off whack. Bare in mind, Link has been at war for months, so he may show some signs of PTSD. He’ll also dream a lot about Queen Zelda. It’s hard to explain that being without the person your soul is linked with is difficult, even more so when he can’t talk… or write in anything but Hylian.
Gem consideration: Bloodstone – Promotes courage, strength and revitalizes our energies on all levels. Helps one to live in the present moment. Used by the ancients as a way to connect and communicate with their ancestors in the spiritual realm. It’s on his left hand where the Triforce used to be.
Hammerspace: Link thought he was cheated out of a power, since he could always do that at home but really, this power lets him have all his weapons on him along with whatever he chooses to put in gem space .
Smithy: Link can combine the powers of weapons together, either literally or magically. Let’s say that Akoya’s rapier can shoot light beams and Connie’s sword has no additional powers but is physically stronger. He can use his powers to temporarily fuse the two weapons into a better weapon- one that shoots light beams and is a lot sturdier. He can only do this to one weapon at a time if temporary, or to multiple as a more permanent thing.
Power up!: He can temporarily double a person’s power for a short period of time. This can be weapon-related, like making his bombs twice as big, his arrows into light arrows, or going to another gem like increasing the energy output in Gongenzaka’s shield. He can only do this one weapon at a time, and he can’t do the same weapon twice in a row.
He’s going to be completely thrown off by the new Powers and the fact he’s a gem. He’ll get used to it quick because it’s his job, but he’ll be pretty freaked and confused. When he gets the hang of it, he’ll have some fun.
